Warning Signs – Unhealthy???

Hello Precious One! 

 

Most of us are aware that we shouldn’t be shoveling garbage down our throats at every opportunity, reaching for sodas, completely ignoring our bodies’ primal urges for exercise — but sometimes, we do it anyway.

 

Amazingly, we somehow are able to shut down the nagging voice in the back of our minds that tell us to knock it off and get ourselves into shape. 

 

The message may come from our conscience, or even a doctor, but we’ll still pretend that everything is OK.

 

Even if those around us — friends, family, or co-workers — can clearly see that we’re hurting ourselves.

 

“Unhealthy” is an incredibly vague term, and can really refer to a lot of things.

 

If you’re overweight, you may be considered unhealthy.

 

The same may be true if you’re underweight or simply have a poor diet.

 

But what the word “unhealthy” is truly striking at is that there are some serious concerns to our overall physical and mental integrity.

 

Concerns that need to be addressed, otherwise we may see our lives end years before they should.

 

Or, if we are able to survive, our quality of life could drop significantly.

 

So, the question becomes how to tell if you’re unhealthy.

 

Physically AND mentally. 

 

It's interesting to note the mental causes of physical illness.  **Check out Louise Hay's book "Heal your Body".  It's a great eye-opener into the metaphysical way to overcome some of the mental dialogue. 

 

Again, you probably already know — and the people around you do as well. There are a number of ways that it manifests itself, too — ways that people can tell you’re unhealthy, just by looking or talking to you.

 

Or, in the case that you’re somehow unaware that your choices are damaging your health, these manifestations could be a clue — they may present an eye-opening revelation that it’s time for change.

 

A Big change.

 

So here is some research on what to look for.  A few tell-tale signs that you’re unhealthy, and that it’s time to do something about it.

 

Bad Skin?

 

The quality of your skin is a sure-fire way to get a reading on your overall level of health.

 

Of course, some people struggle with skin issues like acne and are otherwise perfectly fine — but skin quality can clue you in to some bigger problems. 

 

A poor diet can really impact your skin quality, and if you’re noticing blemishes like stretch marks, that should tell you that something is wrong.

 

Sleep Issues?

 

Can’t seem to fall asleep at night?

 

It's more common than we think and most times we shrug it off and call ourselves a 'night-person'!  That's what I called it anyway!  Nonsense!  

 

Sleep issues can be an indication that some aspects of your life need adjusting.

 

Whether it be that you’re eating the wrong foods, ingesting too much caffeine late in the day, not expelling enough energy during the day, or too much on your brain – not being able to sleep is an issue — which paves the way into further issues.

 

Bathroom issues? 

 

Yep, we’re getting down and dirty.

 

Take note of the color of your urine, and even how frequently you’re going No. 2 — those could both provide important insight into the state of your overall health.

 

Since you’re going to ask. . . your urine should be a pale yellow color, (the clearer the better) — and hopefully odorless. (Unless you ate asparagus that day! lol)

 

As for your bowel movement frequency, there’s a wide range. But if you’re going regularly, you’re probably fine.

 

And don’t ignore the grimy details during your investigation. (Dr. Oz had a great visual on his show once, the more prominent the 'S' shape, the better we are!)

 

Nutrient deficiencies show up – EVERYWHERE!  

 

Lips giving you Lip?

 

This one was interesting!

 

If your lips are constantly chapped, and you find that you can’t live without lip balm, that’s your body’s way of telling you that something’s wrong.

 

Specifically, your lip condition is an indicator of your vitamin levels.

 

If your lips are chapped, you may be vitamin deficient — so diversify your diet, and get the nutrients you need. (and by 'diet' I mean WHAT you eat.  That word sends a CHILL down everyone's back and points right at weight! That's not what it means. xoxo) 

 

Fingers/Toe Nails look funky?

 

If the condition of your lips wasn’t a good enough indicator, your finger and toe nails can also give you a heads-up if you’re unhealthy.

 

You’re going to want to be on the lookout for ridges, discoloration, and bumps — all of which should be red flags. 

 

Your nails can tell you a lot about your overall state of health, so if something is strange, don’t ignore it.

 

Body temperature up & down? 

 

Icy feet and hands aren’t normal! 

 

Yes, there could be environmental factors at play, but if you’re consistently finding that your hands and feet are ice cold, it can be a sign of cardiovascular problems.

 

Specifically, cold hands or feet might mean that you’re having circulation issues, and that your body isn’t getting blood where it needs to go.

 

If this is a chronic issue, you should have it checked out.

 

Brain fog?

 

It’s becoming quite clear that our cognitive ability and brain health are closely tied to our physical condition.

 

That means that obesity and higher levels of body fat can have a significant impact on our ability to think and reason.

 

Oh boy. 

 

It’s kind of scary, but also a very interesting area of research.

 

So, if you can’t formulate a potent thought, it may be a sign that it’s time to drop some weight, or check in with your physician if you are taking any particular medications.  Those side-effect issues are no joke! 

 

Stinkin' Thinkin'?

 

Ahh... the area of many root causes, in my opinion! And usually where I start when I'm not feeling 'healthy'. 

 

For example, how about that inner dialogue that includes messages such as “I’m not good enough” or “Nothing ever goes my way” evokes painful emotions. This combination of negative thoughts and feelings may prompt a need to escape or self-medicate – with drugs, alcohol, food, sex and other risky behaviors.

 

And hello you All-or-Nothing Thinkers . . . also known as black or white thinking.  It is thought patterns grounded in extremes. How's that workin' for ya? 

 

– One misstep on a 'diet' is grounds for complete abandonment of a healthy lifestyle. (And it's back to the same ole behaviors!)

 

– Falling short of 'perfection' means complete failure, so if it's not PERFECT we will PROCRASTINATE and not DO anything. (Perfectionism coupled with it's sister, procrastination, is a whole other dynamic of 'self-worth' that needs our attention, too. It will be another post for another day.  Suffices to say, pay attention to how often you are looking for 'perfect' in your life and then putting off taking action until then.)

 

Common vocabulary for an all-or-nothing thinker includes words such as never, always and forever instead of more precise or realistic descriptions.

 

My favorite thinking is how we disqualify the positive.

 

You know, a good job is never good enough.  Or if you achieve a goal, you minimize your accomplishments and believe someone else could have done what you did – better.  Or if someone compliments you they either want something or they were just trying to be nice.  And then you brush it off and mitigate the compliment.  Been there, done that! 

 

By disqualifying the positive, you turn even the best things in life into a negative.

 

We could go on and on here with the mental thought patterns of 'unhealthy'.  What I will say is there are many! So let's put a pin in this to explore.  

 

We first must become aware of our body our mind and our spirit.  

 

And it will all show up.  Pay attention.  

 

Notice what you are noticing.  

 

If you are sick and tired of being sick and tired – I know we are ALL over-using that phrase – so you decide.  

 

How do you want to look and feel in your life? 

 

No one is putting a gun to your head and telling you to change.  

 

But perhaps, YOU are holding the gun. 

 

Let's face it, when I talk to people, they all want to be living their best life, and don't feel that they are. Or at best that they will get to it. . . some day! 

 

But so many are afraid to make the changes necessary to get to living their best life.  Their dream life.  

 

We fall victim to distractions and our pain. 

 

It may not be easy, but it doesn't have to be hard.  

 

It's a process. 

 

And in that process we figure a plan.  

 

And in that plan you will learn how to manage your mind. 

 

It's like a baby learning how to walk. . . 

 

When the baby falls – and they fall a lot during this stage don't they – would you discourage the baby from getting up to try again?  

 

Does the baby decide it's too hard and chooses to crawl the rest of its life?  Of course not!  You see, baby is already genius, they learn 'hard' from us!  #conditioning

 

I know you see where I'm going here, so let's just get going.  

 

Progress in life is what we are truly looking for.  

 

Raise our own standards to go get what we want in our life – mind, body and soul.
